The Academy of the Arts has been welcoming Study Abroad students for several years. You may wish to take some visual art and theatre classes as part of a much broader semester of study, or enrol in a full load of visual art or theatre units for a whole semester.

"I am from Aspen Colorado in the United States, the famous ski town made notorious in the Jim Carey comedy Dumb & Dumber. I came to Tasmania on a study abroad program from the University of Denver. I am majoring in Geography and also studying Fine Arts. What I like best about the Academy of the Arts, Launceston, University of Tasmania is the amazing facilities and enthusiastic teachers."

"At home in Copenhagen, Denmark, I studied architecture at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts for four years. During this spring semester I am studying architecture at the Newnham campus as well as Glass and Ceramics at The Academy of Arts. It has been a great experience for me to explore the clay and glass material in relation to architectural design. I have been working in a more detailed and much smaller scale than what I am used to. The clay material in particular has introduced me to working with more organic and dynamic shapes. It has been very challenging and extremely inspiring to leave the virtual space behind and to work and design three dimensionally through my hands instead. "

"I am an exchange student from northern NY State at Oswego State University. I am on my 5th year of a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) degree with a concentration in sculpture and ceramics. I have come to the University of Tasmania for several reasons. A friend of mine from back home in NY had attended UTAS in 2003 doing the same program that I am now, based on his recommendation and pictures of the facilities at the Inveresk Art Academy I had to see it for my self. Having always had a need for travel and adventure Australia was one of the places in the world I had to experience. Upon receiving an exchange scholarship to attend UTAS, my mind was made up and off to Tasmania I flew."

The way of life here in Tasmania is something I have never experienced, so incredibly laid back and carefree. This style of living has also influenced my work in the arts and has taken most of the stress from deadlines and dates out of my life. I would recommend the opportunity to attend UTAS to anyone who is willing to relax, learn and travel."
