The Ceramics and Glass studio teaches a wide variety of study units and courses. Students can enrol in ceramics courses from Diploma, Degree, Honours, and Masters through to PhD. The Ceramics and glass studio hosts many visiting scholars during the academic year, their stays culminate in an exhibition of work made in the studio during their residence at the Academy. We offer a variety of courses that combine traditional as well as new technological methods and processes in the making of functional and sculptural ceramics objects.

Your study will also comprise an appreciation of the culture and history of the great traditions and how these inform and influence the way we critique and make contemporary ceramics and glass. Our studio is modern, spacious and well equipped, allowing you to develop and test ideas in a wide variety of materials, firing ranges and scale. The Ceramics and Glass studio has its own gallery, the Museum of Objects, as well as its own well-stocked library.

Units offered in Ceramics and Glass are:

  • FFC110 Introduction to Ceramics
  • FFE103 Introduction to Three-Dimensional Studies
  • FFC201/301 The Art of the Potter’s Wheel
  • FFC203/303 The Return of the Figure
  • FFC204/304 The Pot as Narrative
  • FFC205/305 Studio Glass Studies
  • FFC206/306 Ceramics and Architecture
